The Tokyo Axion Helioscope Experiment ∗

چکیده
A preliminary result of the solar axion search experiment at the University of Tokyo is presented. We searched for axions which could be produced in the solar core by exploiting the axion helioscope. The helioscope consists of a superconducting magnet with field strength of 4 Tesla over 2.3 meters. From the absence of the axion signal we set a 95 % confidence level upper limit on the axion coupling to two photons gaγγ < 6.0× 10 GeV for the axion mass ma < 0.03 eV. This is the first solar axion search experiment whose sensitivity to gaγγ exceeds the limit inferred from the solar age consideration.

Recent Results from the Tokyo Axion Helioscope Experiment
We have searched for axions which could have been produced in the solar core using an axion helioscope which is equipped with a 2.3 m-long 4 T superconducting magnet , PIN-photodiode x-ray detectors, and a telescope mount mechanism to track the sun. A gas container to hold dispersion-matching gas has been developed and a mass region up to ma = 0.26 eV was newly explored. Preliminary analysis se...
متن کاملThe Gammev Suite of Experimental Searches for Axion-like Particles
We report on the design and results of the GammeV search for axion-like particles and for chameleon particles. We also discuss plans for an improved experiment to search for chameleon particles, one which is sensitive to both cosmological and power-law chameleon models. Plans for an improved axion-like particle search using coupled resonant cavities are also presented. This experiment will be m...
متن کاملAxion hot dark matter bounds
The masses of the lightest particles are best constrained by the largest cosmic structures. The well-established method of using cosmological precision data to constrain the cosmic hot dark matter fraction [1, 2] has been extended to hypothetical low-mass particles, notably to axions, in several papers [3, 4, 5, 6, 7]. If axions thermalize after the QCD phase transition, their number density is...
متن کاملSearch for solar axions with mass around 1 eV using coherent conversion of axions into photons
A search for solar axions has been performed using an axion helioscope which is equipped with a 2.3-m long 4T superconducting magnet, a gas container to hold dispersion-matching gas, PIN-photodiode X-ray detectors, and a telescope mount mechanism to track the sun. A mass region around ma = 1eV was newly explored. From the absence of any evidence, analysis sets a limit on axion-photon coupling c...
متن کاملMeasurement of the thickness of an insensitive surface layer of a PIN photodiode
We measured the thickness of an insensitive surface layer of a PIN photodiode, Hamamatsu S3590-06, used in the Tokyo Axion Helioscope. We made alpha-particles impinge on the PIN photodiode in various incidence angles and measured the pulse height to estimate the thickness of the insensitive surface layer. This measurement showed its thickness was 0.31±0.02 μm on the assumption that the insensit...
